Prior to Leather Wise I spent 27 years working for BLC Leather Technology Centre. I was involved with virtually every aspect of the leather business from the animal on the farm, through each stage of the leather making process, onto product design and manufacture. I also have extensive understanding of the consumers’ perception of the final product – and more besides!

During this time I have conducted innovative, yet practical, scientific research enabling me to accrue a wealth of knowledge and become specialised and renowned for providing a confidential, practical problem solving service. I have become a fair and independent arbitrator and an information resource for all aspects of the leather supply chain and have articles regularly published in the trade press. My experience also includes acting as an Expert Witness for Trading Standards.

I have spent all of my working life in the leather industry and regard myself as a well rounded leather technologist and tanner! I previously worked for BLC Leather Technology Centre for 11 years where I enjoyed diverse responsibilities such as managing and delivering training courses, project management, consultancy, procuring research funding and managing the information centre.

Prior to my time at BLC my leather experience was all tannery based and very "hands on". I was the Works Director and General Manager of a UK leather company, Carr Tanning, producing garment leather from sheepskins. I then spent a number of years “Down Under” as a production manager at Packer Leather in Australia producing leather for footwear and accessories from kangaroo and cattle hide. I thoroughly enjoy working in the leather industry and meeting the many unique characters who share my enthusiasm for understanding, and working with, this wonderful material!
